The LLM International Energy Law and Policy is designed to prepare you for a successful career in the global energy sector. 

This course is accredited by the Energy Institute, providing you with access to professional networks and expert resources. 

You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience by undertaking an internship in place of a dissertation. This allows you to gain hands-on experience with various organisations. These may include international energy companies, regulatory bodies, and law firms. 

Graduates of the LLM International Energy Law and Policy have gone on to careers in a range of energy-related sectors including

  • international and national energy companies
  • state electricity and gas companies
  • government energy ministry
  • regulatory authorities in energy
  • law firms
  • international organisations and non-governmental organisations
  • advisory or consultancy firms

The course will also help you build a set of transferable skills that are highly valued by employers, including

  • strong legal research and analytical skills
  • effective negotiation and advocacy skills
  • critical thinking and problem-solving
  • clear and persuasive communication
  • the ability to work effectively and lead teams across disciplines and cultures

Throughout the course, you will have access to tailored careers support. This includes one-to-one guidance on CV writing and interview preparation, as well as mentoring from experienced professionals in the field. With support from the Careers Service, CEPMLP regularly host careers fairs in partnership with the School of Science and Engineering. 

You will also have opportunities to engage with active student societies. These include the Association for International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Energy Institute, and the International Association for Energy Economics. This will help you build valuable industry connections to support your career development.
