Undergraduate internship opportunities in the School of Business

No matter which of our undergraduate degree programmes you choose, you will have multiple opportunities to develop valuable employability skills throughout your academic journey. One such opportunity is the Undergraduate internship module, which includes the completion of a written report that allows you to demonstrate the practical skills and industry knowledge gained during your studies.

As part of your Undergraduate journey with us, you will have the opportunity to tailor your final project experience to your career aspirations.

Step into the professional world with an 8-week internship that allows you to apply classroom theories to real business challenges. The internship typically takes place during the summer between your penultimate and final year, with the report completed during your final year of study.

Internships are available on the following courses:

  • BSc Business Economics
  • BSc International Business in Practice
  • BSc International Business with Marketing in Practice
  • BSc International Business and Management
  • BSc Applied Finance in Practice
  • BSc Accounting & Finance
  • BSc Business Management in Practice

Most employers value internships and prior work and we have designed internship posts so you can demonstrate that you have the skills and experience employers require. We offer a wide range of local, regional, and international internships. These take place in a range of locations, currently including in-person in Bangkok, hybrid in London, online and local experiences in the Scottish region (locations confirmed annually). All the options are unpaid but assessed and credit-bearing so they contribute to your overall degree alongside gaining the skills that employers value

You will be provided with support to navigate through internship applications and interviews and to understand how to communicate your achievements confidently in the global job markets. You will also receive comprehensive support throughout your internship placement itself. Visa restrictions may limit global internship opportunities for some students.

Internship options

Local

These 8-week placements are with companies based within a 1.5-hour commute from Dundee (e.g., Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stirling, Perth, Fife or another nearby area). These internships are unpaid but assessed and credit-bearing. You will need to pay for your own travel costs to and from the employer, but you will be able to retain your existing accommodation. You need to undertake a competitive application process which will include information events about the available posts. Successful candidates will be provided with a co-ordinator as a single point of contact and given advice and support in preparation for the placement. The University of Dundee Career Service will source and manage these internships.

Hybrid

These 8-week placements are with companies based in London or other UK destinations. You will spend the first 3 days and the last 3 days of your internship with a company in the chosen location, while the rest of the internship takes place online. This means you may be able to retain your accommodation in Dundee. These internships involve a combination of in-person meetings at the employer’s offices and online meetings every 1 or 2 weeks. For students staying overnight during their in-person visits to the employer’s offices, there is a cost for accommodation purposes. Students will be responsible for the travel costs to visit the employer’s location. Impact Consulting is the provider managing these internships.

Online

These 8-week placements are with international companies abroad or companies which are based all around the UK. The internship is undertaken fully online and you will be working from any location by attending online meetings with the employer every 1 or 2 weeks. By completing an online internship you will be able to retain your existing accommodation and not incur any additional travel costs. Impact Consulting is the provider managing these internships.

Hybrid overseas

These placements will include the first four weeks working remotely before attending in-person with international companies based in selected locations abroad. You will be required to pay for your accommodation and travel, but the accommodation will be sourced and managed by the internship provider. Impact Consulting is the provider managing these internships.
