Discover your city

Dundee is the perfect student city. Compact, friendly, and easy to get around, yet bursting with all the entertainment and opportunities of big-city life

Where is Dundee?

Dundee is located on the sunny east coast of Scotland.

It's on the banks of the River Tay, which means it has a great mix of city life, a picturesque waterfront, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside.

You'll find it easy to get here thanks to excellent road and rail connections, which also means that it's easy to get to other major cities in the UK as well as the Scottish Highlands.

Getting around Dundee

Dundee is a compact and walkable city - everything you need will be on your doorstep. If you're living on or near the city campus, you'll be just a short walk from your classes, green spaces, cultural attractions, cafes, restaurants, shops, and bars.

If you're living outside the city or need to travel a little further, Dundee has an excellent bus network. Bus travel throughout the whole of Scotland is free for all under-22s so it won't cost you anything either!

“Dundee is extremely walkable. You can get to anywhere and everywhere in a 20 minute walk!”

Lemuela, current student

Is Dundee good for students?

Dundee is a great city to be a student in - during term time, around 14% of people living in the city are students.

This means that there are loads of student-friendly things going on. This includes a whole host of budget-friendly cafes and restaurants, and pubs, clubs, and bars located close to campus as well as parks and waterfront walks if you prefer the great outdoors.

If art and culture are more your thing, then there's a cinema and theatre, within a five-minute walk of campus, and free art galleries and museums close by, too.

There are regular gigs and DJs playing at venues across the city, and during the summer months there are often open-air concerts at Slessor Gardens - a park area within the city centre.

Depending on your financial situation, you may decide to get a part-time job in Dundee. As Dundee has plenty of bars, restaurants, shops, and call centres, you should easily be able to find something to suit your schedule that allows you to balance uni life and your social life as well.

“The fact that [Dundee] is predominantly a student city makes all students feel welcome. More important to me, though, is the fact that you can walk to almost anything you need. The campus is right in the heart of the city, and you have easy access to shops.”
