portfolio assessment of 2D and 3D image acquisition and of artwork

Research Methods encompass essential skills for designing, conducting, and analysing research.

Learning these methods is crucial to:

formulating informed inquiries
collecting and interpreting data
drawing meaningful conclusions

This module will introduce you to the core principles surrounding academic research.

Module code: CA51010 Credits: 20 Semester: Semester 1

This module will change name to Gross Anatomy for Artists in September 2025

This module will provide an overview of human anatomy, focusing on body systems.

You will learn a variety of anatomical terminology, concepts, and theories.

You will study anatomy through practical sessions on campus. In addition, you will undertake workshops in anatomical illustration skills.

Anatomy: Body Systems full module details

Module code: DJ51016 Credits: 10 Semester: Semester 1

During this module, you will undertake weekly life drawing classes.

You will learn how to construct the human form. You will draw the nude model with a focus on surface anatomy and écorché (the underlying anatomy).

You will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of media and techniques.

Life Art full module details

Module code: DJ52038 Credits: 30 Semester: Semester 2

You will learn about the history of medical art as well as its contemporary practice.

You will learn a variety of software. There will be a focus on 3D digital modelling, to respond to specific medical illustration briefs.

You will learn about career pathways, professional bodies, ethics, and registration.

Medical Art 1: Contemporary Theory and Practice full module details

Module code: DJ52039 Credits: 30 Semester: Semester 2

This module aims to provide you with experience of working with other professionals. You will have the opportunity to visit hospitals and other medical/scientific environments.

You will develop two small self-directed projects. These can either be of your own making or in response to a live brief.

Medical Art 2: Communication and Education full module details

Module code: DJ53006 Credits: 60 Semester: Runs during the summer

You will specialise in medical or forensic art through a supervised independent project.

Projects can range from:

research
case studies
live briefs

Dissertations can be illustrated reports or journal papers.

You will present your artwork at the DJCAD Master’s Show and develop skills in project management and academic writing
