Modules

Level 5 modules are available for students studying our MEng Civil and Structural Engineering course. If you are studying the BEng version, you will study up to Level 4.

Core Modules

These modules are an essential part of your course.

Module code: CE12005 Credits: 10 Semester: Semester 1

Civil engineering involves building highly complex structures, and every engineering project requires different materials.

This module will introduce you to the fundamentals of material science most closely related to civil engineering. We will then explore some of the most commonly used materials.

These modules are an essential part of your course.

Module code: CE22007 Credits: 10 Semester: Semester 2

One of the most important stages in the construction process is surveying. Surveying involves measuring the topography of the land on which a civil engineering project is to be built.

Gain the skills needed to conduct surveying will be learnt both in theory and in practice.

These modules are an essential part of your course.

Module code: CE31001 Credits: 20 Semester: Semester 1

This module examines how civil engineering materials are affected by the often extreme environments in which they are required to operate in.

It also examines how the manufacture and use of materials can impact the environment.

Core Modules

These modules are an essential part of your course.

Module code: CE40001 Credits: 30 Semester: Both Semester 1 and 2

You will perform an in-depth investigation on a topic of your choosing, working closely with an academic supervisor.

This dissertation is a key part of your honours degree and you will be matched to a supervisor who will guide you through the project activities.
