Now that you’ve settled into university life, it’s time to build on the foundations you set in your first year. This second-year module is all about helping you take your development to the next level. This will cover this from a personal, academic, and professional perspective.

You’ll dive deeper into skills like leadership, independent learning, and goal-setting. You will also continue to reflect on your progress and plan for what comes next. This will include placements, research projects, or your future career.

You’ll also explore topics like wellbeing, resilience, and employability. You will also have the chance to build stronger professional connections.

This module is part of your Science and Engineering degree. It will help you develop the confidence and focus to make the most of your university journey.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • build on your existing skills and take more control of your learning and development
  • reflect on your growth so far and set clear goals for your next steps
  • explore ways to boost your employability and prepare for your future career
  • strengthen your resilience and learn how to handle challenges with confidence

This module does not have a final exam. 

Teaching methods / timetable

  • Small Group Tutorials
    • You’ll meet regularly in a small group with your adviser of studies. This is an academic who’s there to help guide and support you during your time at university. It’s also a great chance to get to know other students on your course. You will have the opportunity to share ideas, and talk through any challenges you’re facing together.
  • Online tasks
    • Material is provided online for you to work through at your own pace.
