Trusted Research Environment (TRE)
Our Trusted Research Environment (TRE) is a secure computing environment that is specifically designed for handling sensitive data in a way that protects privacy and ensures security, enabling your world leading projects

We live in a world overflowing with data, and extracting meaning from that is crucial. Here at the Health Informatics Centre (HIC), we have decades of experience working in data science. We have operated as an accredited Scottish Safe Haven for over a decade.
Data is key to driving innovation, improving decision-making, and facilitating progress. But it can be very sensitive, and safe handling of this data is our primary concern. Our Trusted Research Environment, or TRE, enables users to conduct research in a flexible, scalable computing environment, providing insights from research and opportunities for innovation.

Meet the team
Welcome to the TRE from the HIC Leadership team, and Co-Directors Mr Richard Walls and Dr Chris Cole. Over the years, HIC has grown organically, supporting researchers at the University of Dundee and across the UK. Today, we offer a wide range of services and can support a wide range of research projects. We are a data ecosystem; a team committed to advancing the responsible (re)use of data for common good. While the TRE is a product, it is the people behind it who drive innovation, maintain rigorous standards, and make HIC one of the UK’s leading accredited Safe Haven’s.
