Educational psychologists work collaboratively with others to improve the wellbeing, experiences and outcomes for all children and young people.

EPs understand how children and young people learn and develop, and their focus is upon prevention and early intervention.

Our Doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology course is tailored for professionals who want to qualify as a practising educational psychologist. You will be eligible for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

Throughout this course, you will develop your knowledge and understanding, and the skills required to be an applied psychologist in educational settings.

The course has excellent links with the Association of Principal Educational Psychologists (ASPEP) and Educational Psychology services across Scotland.

The course is funded by the Scottish Government and Scottish local authorities.

There are three core strands of academic learning, research and practice. Each of these has compulsory modules.

The course is practice-based. Placements will be in mainland Scotland. This will include a combination of rural and urban Educational Psychological Services (EPS). You will gain experience on placement in two different psychological services during the course, learning about the work of an EP and developing skills and knowledge in supervised practice. Learning at university is linked to learning on placement.

You will participate in the training programme full-time for three years.

In years one and two, you will attend two days of teaching each week at the university. There will also be an element of online teaching in each of the modules. There are two days of placement in a psychological service each week in years one and two with additional block placements.

In year three, you will be on placement four days per week. A research thesis will be submitted and assessed by oral examination in year three.
