The in-person selection process will take place on campus at University of Dundee University during March/April 2025. Up to 70 applicants will be invited. The selection process will take place over a two-week period with each candidate being invited for one day between the 20 March and the 2 April 2025.  The format of the selection day will consist of an unseen written task, a group task, and an interview. 

The structure of the day is intended to provide selectors with information that enables informed choices about which candidates are given offers of a place. 

The selection team comprises of HCPC-registered Educational Psychologists from the programme team, from Educational Psychology Services and externally practicing professionals.

Factors considered at the interviewing stage are:

  • Evidence of the ability to apply psychological or educational theory to current practice
  • Knowledge of current developments in applied Educational Psychology
  • Ability to consider and analyse a problem/issue from a variety of perspectives
  • Understanding the tensions and dilemmas arising in the work of an educational psychologist
  • Ability to think flexibly and respond appropriately to the contribution of others in professional situations
  • Capacity to apply principles of inclusion and equity of opportunity in educational contexts
  • Evidence of skills in self-reflection and communication in group situations in professional life
  • Effective professional oral and written communication skills 
  • Knowledge and skills relevant to undertaking doctoral level research

Following the selection process 22 candidates will receive an offer of a place on the programme, subject to satisfactory references.  There will be a short list of reserve candidates.  Candidates will be notified of the outcomes within four-six weeks of the end of the selection process.  Candidates may request feedback on their performance during the selection process following notification of outcome. 

A placement panel will meet after the selection process to allocate placements to each successful candidate who will receive a letter with terms and conditions and notification of placement in year one and the second placement over years two and three.
