You will learn the principles of sustainability and sustainable development. You will also explore the link between theory, policy and practice.

This module is the final component of your chosen programme. The aim of the dissertation is to allow you to focus your research on a specific subject of interest, integrating the knowledge and skills you have acquired in the taught modules.

This module will provide you with a critical understanding and knowledge of the way in which legislation and regulation can be used to implement policy decisions to restructure the electricity/gas industries.

This module will introduce the economic principles relevant to the energy sector. It will provide an overview of the tools typically used in performing economic analysis in the energy sector.

This module will give you the opportunity of applying in the workplace, the knowledge and skills learned throughout your programme of studies. It would also allow you to reflect on how concepts have been contextualised to suit an organisation’s peculiar circumstances.

This module explores the theories and methods of economic regulation for tariff setting in network and regulated industries, e.g. electricity and gas transmission, distribution networks, and pipelines. It also analyses the economics of low carbon technologies such as renewable energy, e.g. wind and solar, electric vehicles, and hydrogen.

In this module, you will first cover key international relations theories. Secondly, you will look at case studies relating to international relations and energy disputes.

This will cover:

• Sino-Japanese political and energy disputes
• the Iran Nuclear Crisis
• the EU energy security policy
• the US energy policy
• Geopolitics and Central Asia

You will learn about the political economy of climate policy in the context of global politics. You will learn about key issues such as:

• the principles and core characteristics of climate change governance
• the power and institutions behind policy-making
• the implications of the climate policy pursued by the major economies

You will learn about essential analytical tools. You will also develop a critical understanding of climate change and environmental issues. You will learn how these issues relate to global energy use and supply. You will see how they relate to policy instruments dealing with climate change mitigation and adaptation.

You will learn about the variability of water resources in space and time. You will learn how to characterise these variations. You will also cover how environmental resources can be modelled for managed applications.

You will gain an advanced level of knowledge of a range of analytic qualitative research methods.

You will assess the appropriateness of different qualitative methods for your own research project. This will allow you to develop the skills to design and conduct qualitative research of your own.

This module provides an opportunity to put research skills into practice, doing a short research project on a 'real world' issue identified by an external organisation

The module is designed to enable you to develop an advanced understanding of global and regional climate change and to provide an objective and balanced understanding of the key terms and concepts associated with the development of the climate change debate as it has evolved over the last half-century.

This module will cover the main concepts and legal mechanisms used in regulating human impact on the environment.

You will learn the key concepts shaping environmental law. This will allow you to identify different approaches and techniques for environmental regulation.

The module covers sources of international investment law. It covers the host State's and foreign investors' main legal obligations. It also looks at compensation and settlement of disputes.

It also discusses the interaction between promoting investments and protecting societal values. These include human rights, the environment, sustainable development, and just transition.

This module examines the management of transboundary waters between states. It also looks into managing resources within states, and providing water services. It covers water allocation to users, water pollution regulation, water resource management, and climate change and water security.

Corporate sustainability means conducting business with environmental, societal, and economic impacts in mind. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) is a framework used to assess a company's impact and sustainability. This module considers legal, theoretical, and practical issues associated with sustainability. It looks into ESG standards for businesses and investment activities.

This module explores a variety of competing models that have been developed to explain and understand politics on the global stage. You will go through some of the main motivating debates in the field of International Relations at present.

This module will introduce you to the political science of human rights.

You will be encouraged to engage with the concepts, theories, and methods that have been used to study human rights.

You will also undertake monitoring for a human rights NGO.

The module combines theory and practice to introduce you to theoretical debates and controversies in human rights advocacy and real-world experience of running an advocacy campaign.

The aim of the module is to help you to learn by reading, reflecting, and doing.

There is an urgent need to understand and improve countries' abilities in energy planning.

You will learn about sustainable energy strategies. These strategies aim to deliver under the United Nations 2030 agenda.

Ultimately, this will serve as a pathway to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
